The truth is eternal, and never changing, what was or is, or will be is always the truth!

The truth supersedes all else, even the falsehood or lies…  Because even the untruths are true as the exist  in an existence which is a true event in time!   Yes, even the bad or falsehoods of existence are a true happening…  Therefore the truth exist in all things, because since even the false lies exist they are a true occurrence…

This does not mean that you need believe a lie or falsehood,  just that you should become aware of it’s existence…  Because it exist or has occurred it is a true event in time! There is some truth in every lie!

Why is this dear friend?

Well if you (we) get back to the basic elements of the universe, it becomes apparent, that we live by certain inalienable laws or principles of Truth!  These are based upon the very essence of Almighty God!

God is truth and all that is created by Him exist as some form of truth!

Yes even Satan, is a true existence, while opposed to the directives of God,  he exist and operates while in unholy ways he is a true being…  Therefore there is a truth about even the devil and all the evil in the universe!  Satan does exist…    To believe otherwise is one of the great lies perpetrated upon the created beings…

Your purpose in life is to seek the truth, beyond this earthly existence in which we exist….  You should  { which is conditional } extend all your effort to find how the truth can or will effect your future…

Remember ” Consequences follow conduct!”

If you live an evil self centered life without repentance and acceptance of the saving Grace of The One true God, then you will only have a evil lonely existence in the eternity to come! Because The Only Sin that will cast you into the Outer Darkness { Which is with out God}; is to reject or not accept His Grace and Mercy that He has offered  and allowed through  His Son , by your personal choice!  There by failing to accept His Lordship and Surrendering to His Will in your life!   That is The Sin of  Unforgiveness!

This is the truth, and neither you nor anyone else can change that period!

You can do wrong, even when you do not realize that it is wrong or evil!

This should be enough to scar you into seeking the Grace of God in your life!

But since the Truth of God is an open book, you can through prayer, supplication and repentance come to the saving Grace of Almighty God, who alone can save your very  soul!  This is where your faith comes into play, the act of being saved is a open on going thing that must be worked out by you alone with fear and trembling!

What we should learn in this life is simply truth!

The truth exist; find it for your sake!

Converts to terror

Reporting on the terrorism trial now under way in federal district court in Manhattan is focusing on defense attorneys’ “entrapment” claim. But to me, the more interesting question is how the four accused were radicalized to the point where they’d even consider plotting to bomb synagogues in The Bronx and shoot down aircraft with missiles.

What stands out is the prison connection.

All four defendants were former inmates. More important, all three imams at the mosque in Newburgh that the defendants attended after being released from prison had a connection with the prison system.

Imams Salahuddin Muhammad, Hamin Rashada and Melody Rashada worked for the Department of Correctional Services. All had been hired by Warith Deen Umar — who for years headed ministerial services for the New York state prison system.

Umar stated in a 2003 Wall Street Journal interview that prisons were a prime place to recruit homegrown terrorists. As recently as last year, at an Islamic Society of North American convention, he made disparaging remarks about Israel and Jews in 2009. He’s an an avowed Salafist.

The Wahabbi/Salafist sect of Islam adheres to a strict interpretation of the Koran and aims to restore the caliphate form of government, functioning under Sharia law. It views Jews and other groups of nonbelievers as infidels and enemies of Islam.

And it has been the dominant Islamic theology in the prison Muslim community for decades — thanks to generous Saudi funding for literature and training for the chaplains. It’s been so dominant that Shia Muslim inmates in New York filed a class-action lawsuit against the prison administrators, claiming religious persecution, threats and overt acts of intimidation by other Muslim inmates at the behest of the civil-service chaplains.

Several years ago, authorities recorded conversations of convicts in Imam Salahuddin Muhammad’s congregation. One claimed that both the governor and the president of the United States were “Zionist puppets.” Another called Jews “pigs and dogs.”

Is it any wonder that one of the defendants, alleged ringleader James Cromitie, was recorded making anti-Semitic remarks and stating that he wanted to destroy the Jews, seeing them as enemies of Islam.

Where and when were these seeds of hatred planted — and where was the prison chaplain when all this was going on?

In an interview with The New York Times after the arrest of the four suspects in May 2009, Imam Salahuddin Muhammad insisted he’d seen little evidence of radicalization in prison, claiming, “I don’t hear any of that wild stuff,” he said, “and if I did hear it, I would stomp it out. It’s totally un-Islamic.”

Yet, during his time as chaplain in the Fishkill State Prison, he hired several inmates with known radical Islamic ties as clerks in the chaplain’s office. One was a Palestinian Hamas member; another was a Yemeni inmate with ties to the Lackawanna Six — a US-grown terrorist cell that attended al Qaeda training camps in the Middle East. He even allowed the inmates to use his office phone to call the Middle East and North Africa.

One need only look at the amount of money from inmate funds that were sent to the Newburgh mosque over the years to see a well-established connection. Inmates from the chaplains’ prison congregations have also sent thousands of dollars to pseudo-Islamic charities, such as the Holy Land Foundation and others, which in turn provided material support for terrorist organizations.

Radical Islamic recruitment in the prison system is a reality. Years of sowing seeds among a captive audience are bearing fruit.

It was no coincidence that the authorities focused on this particular congregation.

Patrick Dunleavy, a former deputy inspector general of the state Department of Correctional Services, spent more than 26 years working in law enforcement. There would not be any Drug problem here if people did not buy the stuff, crime would be non existence, and there would not be all the woes and grief in society if we eliminated greed and selfishness…  The solution is crystal clear, if we get our country back to the ways of God; then all the other problems would not be so prevalent!

Please remember one of the most quoted scriptures:

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” -2nd Chronicles 7:14

**   2nd Chronicles 7:14  is one of the most quoted Scriptures from the Word of God.  This verse contains the remedy for America.  It contains a PROMISE from God Almighty, but it’s a “conditional” promise (i.e., there are conditions which WE must first meet as believers).  If we meet the conditions, then God will honor His promise.  Here are the conditions:

1. Humble ourselves
2. Pray
3. Seek God’s face
4. Turn from our wicked ways

These four conditions are naturally progressive in order.  In other words, a person won’t pray if they are not humble.  A person who does not humble them self and pray cannot seek God’s face.  A person who is not seeking God’s face will not turn from their wicked sins.  So there is a divine order here, and it all begins with humility and thanksgiving towards God on our part.  When we are humbled, then we will turn to God in prayer and seek God’s presence in our life.  As we GROW in the Spirit by walking with God, He WILL influence us and rub off on us.  Thus, we will become more like Jesus, loving righteousness and hating iniquity.

The Sin of Complacency

One of the most wicked sins of Christians in America is complacency.  Most Christians are woefully guilty of apathy and indifference.  This is exactly why wickedness has flourished in America.

Yes, America can be healed, but she has lapsed into a spiritual coma that only red-hot uncompromising Biblical preaching can bring her out of.  Most Christians live on the love boat, they run away from anything that might bring them persecution.  The Bible declares that anyone who lives for God WILL face certain persecution…”Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution” (2nd Timothy 3:12).  The Christian life is a cross-bearing life.  If you want to measure how well America’s Christians are doing, then simply look at the level of persecution.  Though we receive news reports here and there of Christians who are faithfully fighting the good fight of faith, MOST Christians in America don’t know what “persecution” really means.  Instead of preaching out against “homosexual marriages,” Christianity Today magazine thinks we should be more loving and understanding towards the LGBT community.  Instead of exposing the Satanic evils of Harry Potter, Christianity Today magazine actually gave the witchcraft series a positive review.  Do you see, we have not turned from our wicked ways in America.

The average church administration cares more about the Sunday offerings than they do about the people in the local community.  Even worse, America’s Christians are living in DENIAL of their apostate condition.

Ex.  Posters picturing aborted babies has been PROVEN to deter some women from having abortions.  What is wrong with America’s pastors?  We didn’t need a pastor like that.

Believers Who Don’t care

What will it take America?  What will it take to open your eyes oh Christian?  What will it take to remove your blinders to the truth?  America is going to hell because of dead churches, because of Christians who play the church game without ever doing anything to fight against sin and evil.

Backslidden Bible Colleges

It’s so frustrating to know that such a deadbeat is responsible for hundreds of young people in a Bible college.  What are Bible colleges thinking these days?  They are hiring the wrong people!

If I had a Bible college, I would hire all the troublemakers…the big mouths for God, of course, I probably wouldn’t have many students either.

Most young people today are more concerned about job security than they are about serving God.  Listen folks, there ain’t no job security in the ministry…none!  In fact, there’s not much job security in most jobs today…secular or ministerial.  Most college-aged young people are being supported by their parents, and their parents are primarily concerned about their kid eating when he/she finishes school (understandably).  As America plunges deeper and deeper into the immoral abyss, Bible colleges are increasingly pressured to dip their sails and compromise their standards in order to maintain enough enrollment to pay the bills.  There’s a natural trend for Bible colleges to spiritually deteriorate over time.  It’s a sad fact, Bible college administrations oftentimes compromise their integrity to attract more students who are more worldly.  It’s hard to imagine that the heathen, Chicago University, was actually started by a Baptist preacher a long, long time ago.

If My People…

If America is going to be changed, we need a whole new breed of believers.  The television believer isn’t going to change America.  The NIV (New International Version) believer isn’t going to change America for God.  The Sunday believer isn’t going to do it.  We need men and women with backbone…guts!

Until you come to the place in your Christian life where you’re willing to lose something (perhaps even everything) for the cause of Christ, then you will never do much for God.  Fear prevents believers from taking a stand, from jumping into the deep for God, from going against the crowd, from standing alone, from preaching the truth to a hostile world.

BTW: Fear is one of the main tools of the Devil,  Because when you are afraid you will not do anything,  just quake and shiver! Which is exactly what Satan wants you to do!   Nothing!

Please don’t misunderstand me, anyone can serve God…even cowards.  Perhaps you can only give out Gospel tracts anonymously because you’re afraid of people.  That’s  OK!  Everyone is different.  All I’m saying is that if America is going to be brought back to God and saved from utter destruction, then we’re going to need some fearless Christians to stand up and men of God to preach the Word of God uncompromisingly against sin.  Satan’s crowd has near total control of the TV and radio.  We need thousands of Christian websites, like this one, to take a stand for God on the internet.

God hates all the adulterous, lewd, and violent Hollywood movies.  God hates the torture and murder of Terri Schiavo.  God hates the evil invasion of Iraq on the basis of White House LIES.  God hates the Harry Potter series which promotes witchcraft.  God hates homosexuality, bisexuality, and transexuality.  God hates the hellish rock music industry.  God hates the adulterous country music industry.  God hates the lying propaganda of the news media.  God hates the lobbying law firms that channel the filthy lucre into the hands of Washington politicians, selling out their fellow Americans.   God hates lying.

Yes, God hates sin and all forms of wickedness.  If we are to truly TURN FROM OUR WICKED WAYS, then let us start by standing out against all the many great evils of our day.  God is NOT pleased with a generation of shameful believers who carry no cross, who stand for nothing, who never anger the wicked, who sit idle,  who try to kowtow with the wicked, who compromise in an attempt not to offend the wicked, who endorse Harry Potter’s witchcraft, who think compromise is love, who think contending for the faith is hate, who do nothing for God except criticize those of us who are getting the job done.  It’s our job to get the truth out.

How Does Sugar Feed Cancer?

Controlling your blood-glucose and insulin levels through diet, exercise and emotional stress relief can be one of the most crucial components to a cancer recovery program. These factors are also crucial in order to prevent cancer in the first place.

It may surprise you, but the theory that sugar feeds cancer was born nearly 80 years ago. Even more shocking, most conventional cancer programs STILL do not adequately address diet and the need to avoid sugars.

In 1931 the Nobel Prize was awarded to German researcher Dr. Otto Warburg, who first discovered that cancer cells have a fundamentally different energy metabolism compared to healthy cells.

Malignant tumors tend to use a process where glucose is used as a fuel by the cancer cells, creating lactic acid as a byproduct.^[i] The large amount of lactic acid produced by this fermentation of glucose from cancer cells is then transported to your liver. This conversion of glucose to lactic acid generates a lower, more acidic pH in cancerous tissues as well as overall physical fatigue from lactic acid buildup.^{[ii] [iii]}

This is a very inefficient pathway for energy metabolism, which extracts only about 5 percent of the available energy in your food supply. In simplistic terms, the cancer is “wasting” energy, which leads you to become both tired and undernourished, and as the vicious cycle continues, will lead to the body wasting so many cancer patients experience.

Additionally, carbohydrates from glucose and sucrose significantly decreases the capacity of neutrophils to do their job. Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell that help cells to envelop and destroy invaders, such as cancer.

In a nutshell, ALL forms of sugar are detrimental to health in general and promote cancer, but in slightly different ways, and to a different extent. Fructose, however, clearly seems to be one of the overall most harmful.

Connecting the Dots: Fructose—Uric Acid—Cancer and Chronic Disease Risk

One particularly interesting tidbit I noticed in this latest study is the mention of how fructose metabolism leads to increased uric acid production along with cancer cell proliferation.

In my first interview with Dr. Johnson, he explained just how detrimental the impact of fructose is on your uric acid level. Interestingly, ONLY fructose, NOT glucose, drives up uric acid as part of its normal metabolic pathways

And, the connection between fructose, uric acid, hypertension, insulin resistance/diabetes and kidney disease is so clear that your uric acid level can actually be used as a marker for toxicity from fructose — meaning that if your levels are high, you’re at increased risk of all the health hazards associated with fructose consumption and you really need to reduce your fructose intake.

Dr. Richard Johnson has written one of the best books on the market on the health dangers of fructose, called The Sugar Fix, which explains how fructose causes high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, diabetes and kidney disease. As I’ve mentioned previously, he does promote the use of artificial sweeteners in this book, which I cannot recommend.  His research on fructose, however, is unsurpassed in my opinion.

Now it’s safe to say that cancer, at least pancreatic cancer, is also definitely on the list of diseases that are directly linked to excessive fructose consumption.

So are Fruits Good or Bad for You?

This recommendation has created much controversy among many who regularly consume fruit and believe this recommendation does not apply to them.

Many who eat large amounts of fruit have no symptoms, just as those with high blood pressure may not have any symptoms. However lack of symptoms is no assurance you are not exposing yourself to some danger.

Please remember that over three-quarters of the population has insulin resistance.

How do you know if you have insulin resistance?  If you have any of the following conditions it is a safe bet you have it:

• Diabetes
• High blood pressure
• Overweight
• High Cholesterol
• Cancer

If you have insulin resistance it would be strongly recommended to limit your total grams of fructose from fruit to below 15 grams per day (see the table below).  If you believe you are very healthy and are an exception to this recommendation, then you can easily confirm if this is true for you by measuring your uric acid level.

If your uric acid level is greater than 5.5 than you have a risk factor and should limit your fructose consumption. The higher over 5.5, the stronger the risk factor is.

Keep in mind that fruits also contain fructose, although an ameliorating factor is that whole fruits also contain vitamins and other antioxidants that reduce the hazardous effects of fructose.

Juices, on the other hand, are nearly as detrimental as soda, because a glass of juice is loaded with fructose, and a lot of the antioxidants are lost.

It is important to remember that fructose alone isn’t evil as fruits are certainly beneficial. But when you consume high levels of fructose it will absolutely devastate your biochemistry and physiology. Remember the AVERAGE fructose dose is 70 grams per day which exceeds the recommend limit by 300 percent.

So please BE CAREFUL with your fruit consumption. You simply MUST understand that because HFCS is so darn cheap, it is added to virtually every processed food. So even if you consumed no soda or fruit, it is very easy to exceed 25 grams of hidden fructose in your diet if you are consuming anything processed.

If you are a raw food advocate, have a pristine diet, and exercise regularly, then you could be the exception that could exceed this limit and stay healthy. But in my experience that is certainly the exception and not the norm.

So please, carefully add up your fruits based on the table below to keep the total fructose from fruit below 15 grams per day.

Restricting Fructose Consumption is Crucial Part of a Comprehensive Cancer Treatment Plan

Reducing (or preferably eliminating) fructose and other added sugars, as well as limiting grain carbohydrates from your diet, is usually a primary priority  on my list of cancer reducing strategies, and for good reason.

This dietary strategy should also be part of your comprehensive cancer treatment plan.

By severely reducing your intake of fructose and carbs in your diet, you help stave off any potential cancer growth, and “starve” any tumors you currently have.

It also bolsters your overall immune function, because sugar decreases the function of your immune system almost immediately.

Unfortunately, few cancer patients undergoing conventional cancer care in the US are offered any scientifically guided nutrition therapy beyond being told to “just eat healthy foods.” I believe many cancer patients would see major improvement in their outcome if they controlled the supply of cancer’s preferred fuel, glucose, and stayed clear of fructose to significantly reduce tumor proliferation.

Starving Cancer – Another Up-and-Coming Strategy

Before I go into further cancer prevention strategies, I’d like to remind you of another recent cancer research development I recently wrote about, namely ‘starving’ cancer by eating foods that prevent angiogenesis.

Angiogenesis (too many blood vessels) is a hallmark of cancer as the tumor actually needs blood in order to grow (this is how it feeds on the glucose in your bloodstream). But angiogenesis appears to be preventable by consuming foods that are natural inhibitors of excessive blood vessel growth.

When you regularly consume these foods, you can effectively starve any microscopic cancerous growths, effectively preventing them from growing further and becoming dangerous.

According to Dr. Li, who is currently leading this research, resveratrol from red grapes, for example, have been shown to inhibit abnormal angiogenesis by 60 percent. Even more potent is the ellagic acid found in strawberries.

Other potent anti-angiogenetic foods include:

Logically, different foods contain different potencies of anti-angiogenetic compounds.  Some foods have even been found to be more potent than current anti-angiogenetic drugs! These include parsley and garlic.

But interestingly, when researchers evaluated a combination of two of the LEAST potent teas, for example, they discovered that this combination tea had greater potency than any given tea by itself.

“There’s synergy,” Li states, which should come as no surprise to those of you who are well-versed in holistic nutrition.

It is this synergy that makes fresh, whole foods so potently nutritious!

The sum is far greater than the individual parts, and this is why it’s far more important to focus on eating a diet of whole, organic foods, rather than obsessing about individual nutrients.

Other Cancer Prevention Strategies

Aside from avoiding fructose and other added sugars (which means cutting out not only soda and sugary beverages, but also processed foods since most are loaded with HFCS), and incorporating more anti-angiogenetic fare into your diet, here are several additional strategies you can incorporate to virtually eliminate your cancer risk:

1. Normalize your vitamin D levels with safe amounts of sun exposure. This is one of the most effective, and least expensive, cancer prevention strategies available to most people. Ideally, you’ll want to monitor your vitamin D levels to make sure your levels stay within a therapeutic range year-round.
2. Get appropriate amounts of animal-based omega-3 fats.
3. Exercise. One of the primary reasons exercise works is that it drives your insulin levels down. Controlling insulin levels is one of the most powerful ways to reduce your cancer risks.
4. Have a tool to permanently erase the neurological short-circuiting that can activate cancer genes. Even the CDC states that 85 percent of disease is caused by emotions. It is likely that this factor may be more important than all the other physical ones listed here, so make sure this is addressed. My particular favorite tool for this purpose, as you may know, is the Emotional Freedom Technique.
5. Only 25 percent of people eat enough vegetables, so by all means eat as many vegetables as you are comfortable with, preferably fresh and organic.

   Ideally, you’ll also want to determine your nutritional type, as some veggies are better than others, depending on your type. In addition, if you are a carb nutritional type, for example, you may need up to 300 percent more vegetables than a protein nutritional type.

6. Maintain an ideal body weight.
7. Get enough high-quality sleep.
8. Reduce your exposure to environmental toxins like pesticides, household chemical cleaners, synthetic air fresheners and air pollution.

Then they will become defensive toward any attempt to change these values, if and when confronted with any new   ideas or alien information…   This is almost a built in defensive mode which most humans use for survival…  Yet is it necessary?

It can appear as both good and bad;  because on the one hand it offers some  perceived security in the known, yet it can be perceived as bad when a new situation ( an unknown) arises that could improve their life!   So on the one hand it allows the person to exist based upon what they know at the time;  even though it may be a dangerous or even  a destructive situation…   This is where many find themselves today!

How then can we be better situated to find improvement in our lives?

First we should all come to realize that God has given each human, a free agency or the ability to choose right or wrong…    Even though many people will attempt to explain their sinful actions by saying they did not know right from wrong!    Well this is an eternal lie , because God has placed within the heart of every person the ability to know right from wrong,  if and when they stop to consider it!

Now we have all heard the term that ” the Devil made me do it !” which is a cope out because while you may be tempted ultimately it is your decision; not the Devil’s…     All decisions come down to  either accepting or rejecting the temptation, before acting upon it!   Other wise you would only be a puppet on the string of the Devil puppet master; dancing when ever he dictates…   Many people do get into a position where they feel that is where they are in their life;  lost to whims and grief…   This is a sorry excuse to live a reprobate existence!

What you need to do is to seek, (seek is a key word) the truth in your life!  Because if you are earnest and seek the Righteousness of God in your life it can and will be made available to you no matter where you find yourself! There is no limit to the power and knowledge of Almighty God!

Now we will still have the cultural and physical environment  limitations to deal with but you can over come all these things through Prayer and supplications, when you seek the Truth!

There have been many false Christ (anti Christ)  in  history;  yet there is only one  Eternal Father God!

As far as we are concerned our only hope is found in the only true savior of mankind;

Yeshua Ha’Mashiach (Jesus Christ)

Subject: History Lesson on Your Social Security Card

Just in case some of you young whippersnappers (& some older ones) didn’t know this. It’s easy to check out, if you don’t believe it. Be sure and show it to your family and friends. They need a little history lesson on what’s what and it doesn’t matter whether you are Democrat or Republican. Facts are Facts.

Social Security Cards up until the 1980s expressly stated the number and card were not to be used for identification purposes.

Since nearly everyone in the United States now has a number, it became convenient to use it anyway and the NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION message was removed.

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. His promises are in black, with updates in red.

1.) That participation in the Program would be Completely voluntary [No longer voluntary],

2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program [Now 7.65% on the first $90,000, and 15% on the first $90,000 if you're self-employed],

3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year [No longer tax deductible],

4.) That the money the participants put into the independent ‘Trust Fund’ rather than into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program [Under Johnson the money was moved to the General Fund and Spent], and

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income [Under Clinton & Gore up to 85% of your Social Security can be Taxed].

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month — and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of
the money we paid to the Federal government to ‘put away’ — you may be interested in the following:

A: That’s right! Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!

Now, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats want to turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!  HUH!

And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it! If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will  evolve. Maybe not, though.     Some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn’t so — but it’s worth a try.    How many people can YOU send this to?

Fact:  Actions speak louder than bumper stickers.

lets look at some facts, and see what you think, folks…

1) Looking at the facts, first everyone has a free choice to practice, do, or think what ever they will just they must realize for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction, no matter the situation!

2) Not all people are or will be treated the same, unfortunately it has not been nor will it be so!

3) All people are selfish and to one extent or another filled with lust and greed!

4) Life is not fair because our very existence varies so much that  only in a colony of robots would everything be the same;  in any attempt to be “fair”…   But then who is to say what is fair?

5) Next is the consideration as to what really makes right or wrong!

While you may not like this outline it is based  upon the truth!

All this said and done most people just want to do what ever they fell like at the time, but what are the consequences?

Tour de Sol Results

The weather was perfect and the traffic was acceptable on Friday the 13^th of May for the Monte Carlo style Rally mileage competition.  I had an arrangement with a local newspaper editor to meet with his reporter at the start line of the Rally and carry him along for an hour or so, to witness the rally and get publicity for Tour de Sol.  We met at the start/finish line at Stewart’s shop off exit 13N of I87.  We went through the official process of checking in, including filling the fuel tank to the very top, checking the tire pressure, and sealing the fuel filler cap and fuel filler door.  I insisted that the officials pay close attention to published rules and procedures so there would be no doubt or question of the procedures being fulfilled to the start.  I expected to get such good mileage that I would be accused of cheating when I finished.

At first the start line official wanted to bypass the sealing off of my gas cap because he couldn’t find his glue/silicon sealer, which was to be used to glue a business card to the gas cap and to the metal around it, preventing any entry.  I insisted that the seal be installed so there would be no question.  A second seal was installed on the filler door.  This was a number of strips of overlapping duct tape smoothed over the filler door and signed by the official.  Any tampering of the tape would be obvious at the finish line.  The signature spanned across all overlaps of the tape.

We had planned to start at 9 AM but the official procedures delayed our start until about 9:40.  Because the newspaper reporter wanted to ride only for part of the rally we had to change our planned route to accommodate his wishes.  My wife the navigator, who has never been trained to navigate, was busier than a one legged field goal kicker and didn’t have time nor enough hands to do the logging paperwork of the rally, and keep us from getting lost at the same time.  We did get lost for a while but we just stopped and I deciphered the map and road signs to find our way again.

Two hours later we had made it to one road that was part of our planned route and back to the start/finish line to drop off the reporter.  Most of that loop was on unfamiliar roads, which is not what you want in a mileage competition.  But this was more like real driving conditions so I couldn’t complain.  On this first loop we did have a run-in with a road work crew, which got my temper charged up a little.  Two bad the charge couldn’t go into the battery, because on our second loop the battery went dead and we wasted ten minutes getting help to get us going again.

The pause at the start/finish line, to drop off the reporter, took longer than expected because the finish line had officially just opened and the press was there.  I pulled in to drop off the reporter and the officials wanted to do the finish line procedures.  I told them I was only half done and they would have to wait.  The press did jump in and did an interview and took pictures.  My reporter got out and a half hour later I resumed my rally.

The second half of the rally was mostly uneventful because we chose major routes to travel, which gave us more traffic to contend with and forced us to maintain a higher speed than planned.  We also had that incident of having a dead battery caused by the hydrogen generator running when the engine was off.  This is a big no-no in our instruction manual and I had planned on rewiring the system to prevent that the previous week but got too busy.

Our route took us 160 miles according to our odometer, which was off by 5 miles because I had installed slightly smaller tires than stock.  Our route took us through 12 villages and cities in 155 miles for an average of one city per 13 miles.  I would call that pretty normal average driving conditions.  The speed limits ranged from 30 mph to 55 mph, except in school zones, where it was 15-20 mph.  We did no highway driving whatever on this rally as other competitors did.  We had close to 50 stop signs and traffic lights and plenty of miles of city traffic on our route to claim that we had pretty normal traffic conditions.

Our driving techniques were what you would expect for a mileage competition.  We used almost every technique in the Hydrogen Boost manual expect drafting, because we never got on the highway where drafting would help.  Yes, we did as the rules suggested, we packed in as much fuel as we could before the start.  I filled the tank up the night before.  I shook the car and jumped up and down on the bumper to get all the air bubble out, as suggested by the rules.  I even insured that our start line fill up was done with my car tilting down away from the filler tube.  And yes when I pulled in to the finish line I first pulled up to the pump that had my car tilted the other way.  Of course this was done because this is how every other car pulled in.  The normal traffic for that station was such that you had to pull in that way unless you balked traffic and interfered with normal flow, which was in from the main road and out onto a side road where there was a traffic light to help you get back onto the main road.

I knew that the original finish line fill-up would be inaccurate but I wanted to make a point to the officials that they were not getting an accurate mileage calculation.  My first fill-up took 0.8 gallons, which calculated to an average mileage of about 200 mpg.  Even I was flabbergasted but I was not the only one who would not accept that calculation.  I pointed out to the officials the problem and said, “Let’s pull the car down there, where I filled up before and let’s fill up again.”  We did this and it took on another 0.4 gallons, but this was not enough either.  Though it would have calculated to 133 mpg, I said, “Wait we’re not done yet.  The rules encouraged us to shake the car and put as much in as we could.”  So I got on top of the bumper and jumped up and down and shook the car to get all the bubbles out.  Then we took the pump again and put in another 0.2 gallons, for a total of 1.424 gallons, for an average of 112 mpg.  After doing a ten mile odometer calibration run and using 10.28 miles on the odometer to do it, we calibrated the real distance traveled on the rally to be 155.3 miles.  This made our real mileage 109.1 mpg.

After that the official went through the vehicle “with a fine toothed comb” to find out how I must have cheated.  By this time the best hybrid had recorded about half that mileage.  After examining under the hood and inside the computer readout on the Auterra Dyno-Scan, they finally gave up the quest for cheating proof.  They wanted to figure a way to dock me for shutting off my engine while still moving (Read about the porpoising technique in our newsletters.) but I objected that the Prius hybrid also shuts off its engine while moving so how could you dock me in a competition with them.      ** Note the negative bias?

The official awards ceremony was Saturday at 3 PM and I was called up to get in lie for an award.  I expected that the official finally dropped their objections to porpoising and would award me the best in show trophy.  When I was called up I was given an award for “most unique vehicle” which I though quite inappropriate since I was driving the most common vehicle there.  My mileage was announced as 99 mpg and I figured I was docked for porpoising.  I called the official the next day and he said they had originally made a mistake adding up the three fill-up receipts during the calculations and that I only got 99 mpg.  He said that we had on one slip used the cent instead of gallons.  I objected, but without having the slips in front of me I could not make accusations.  Of course when gas sells at over $2 a gallon the cents would have been more than the gallons.  After seeing the official results I saw that they also only credited me with only 150.1 miles instead of 155.3.  They must have mistakenly done the calibration adjustment twice.  Regardless of any mistakes made in calculating the mileage, the reported official results were that The Hydrogen Boost Saturn SL1 achieved 99.53 mile per gallon.  The only vehicle to officially achieve more mileage was a plug-in hybrid that used both electrical power from the wall and gasoline from the pump.  You can notice on the official results that this entrant is listed twice, once at 102.13 mpg and again at 67.47 mpg.  I can only assume that the 102.13 mpg was the mileage based on just the gasoline added to the tank at the finish line and the 67.47 mpg was the equivalent mpg after the electrical power to recharge the batteries was converted to gallons of gasoline.  I haven’t seen the formula that the officials used to calculate how many gallons of gas were equivalent to the kilowatt hours used to charge the batteries.  Whatever the formula was I know that it favors the electrical power input.  2004 results reported an electric “vehicle” achieving 1099.5 mpg.

There was at least one modified hybrid that was credited with 94.73 mpg, but as far as I know, none of the other entrants including this one, were required to fill their fuel tank at the finish line with three attempts in different positions and with jumping up and down on the bumper to shake out the bubbles.  Regardless of the finish line procedures, technically the plug-in hybrid that is listed twice and officially credited with beating the Hydrogen Boost Saturn should have been disqualified or told to go back out and drive around some more, because they did not cover the minimum distance required by the rules.

So where does the Truth lie?

You can have low taxes, or you can have an economic recovery, but you can’t have both. That’s the message the administration is hammering this summer.

Democrats argue in particular that extending the George W. Bush rate cuts for people in the top tax brackets will damage the budget to such an extent that our economy will suffer.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, for example, said that sustaining the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans would “hurt economic recovery by undermining confidence that we are prepared to make a commitment today to bring down our future deficits.”

Some centrists, and even a few conservatives, are talking a similar line. Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan went further recently, saying all the Bush tax cuts, even those for lower earners, should expire as scheduled at year’s end, since it is wrong to live “on borrowed money.”

The argument that we have to choose between keeping the Bush rates on the one hand and achieve an economic recovery on the other is hypocritical. You know that’s true because our leaders aren’t alleging the same trade-off when it comes to federal expenditures. Only lower tax rates can hurt us, Democrats want us to believe.

Yet you don’t hear that the meds or Obamacare are holding the U.S. economy hostage. The reason for the emphasis on taxes is simple: Democrats argue that the stimulus will generate growth and, therefore, is worthier than tax cuts.

When it comes to entitlements or intrusions like Obamacare, the Democrats don’t have an economic argument at all.

What about Republicans? They are finding themselves on the defensive. In the 1980s, 1990s and the early part of this decade, the supply-siders who had advised President Ronald Reagan made their own case that tax cuts would be partially or completely offset by growth. That turned out to be true.

Democrats are willfully overlooking a general record that shows that tax cuts can increase revenue. The previous two times the U.S. trimmed the capital-gains rate, in the later 1990s and under Bush in the early 2000s, the lower rate generated extra activity, and the Treasury saw more cash flow in than predicted.

David Stockman, a former Reagan budget adviser, wrote recently that Republicans have become “hooked for good on the delusion that the economy will outgrow the deficit if plied with enough tax cuts.” It’s more accurate to say that Republicans liked their tax cuts so much that they neglected to marshal political capital to control spending and reform entitlements.

The Grand Old Party failed to stop Congress from increasing outlays one year over the next. More important, Republicans failed to push through entitlement reform when it would have been much easier. This failure, combined with the Democrats’ spending, hurt the economy.

Both parties have squandered many chances to undertake entitlement reform.

Greenspan’s commission recommended that higher tax rates kick in sooner and called for postponing the retirement age and other revenue-saving measures. With the commission’s blessing, the so-called FICA tax rose to 7.65 percent for employees in 1990 from 6.7 percent in 1983. The retirement age also went up. This shored up the budget temporarily. But neither step addressed the long-term shortfall caused by the country’s demographics.

In other words, the Greenspan fix was a poison pill of its own. It didn’t prevent huge cash deficits in the long run. Those are the deficits that are in the news in 2010, the first year Social Security will pay out more than Americans paid into it.

Had the Greenspan commission come up with a long-term reform, and had other reformers come up with better formats for our other entitlements, Greenspan today wouldn’t need to talk about “borrowed money” as a rationale for preventing tax cuts.

The nation’s real ailment comes from having swallowed those entitlement poison pills, not annual budgeting or even financial crises. Yet lawmakers and commentators are not talking about fundamental entitlement reform. Democrats are scolding tax cutters in the hope of diminishing Republican chances in the next election.

What a shame. Taxes aren’t the economy’s big problem.
